No more 4D gambling outlets in Kedah effective today

Effective today all gambling and lottery premises are no longer allowed to operate in Kedah, following the state government’s move not to renew its licences.

In a statement, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said local authorities had been instructed to ensure that all outlets complied with the directive, made last November.

“All local government divisions have been instructed to check gambling and lottery shops throughout Kedah, to ensure none are open. You'll never know if any of them are still operating.

"All of their licences have expired by Dec 31 and will no longer be renewed,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro today.

Kedah is now the third state to ban licenced gambling premises, with the others being PAS-led Kelantan and Terengganu.

On Nov 14, 2022, Sanusi announced that the government would no longer approve gambling licences, in addition to limiting the sale of liquor on all premises, especially in rural areas in the state.

He said the move was intended to tackle social ills caused by gambling, such as the collapse of family institutions.
